MSP Acquires New Carlson Plotter/Cutter
In January, Maine Sailing Partners took delivery of a new Carlson Designs C-2 plotter cutter to replace our 8 year old M-2000. This new machine is both faster and more precise than our old machine, which should allow us to reproduce our designs both more accurately and more quickly than ever before.

The new machine required some modifications to our vacuum table and some calibration to before we could begin production, but as of the end of January, 2004, we are in full production. We have now cut everything from feather weight 0.6 oz nylon to 10 oz. laminates, and the new machine has performed flawlessly.

Some of the features that make this new machine better: Twin slaved stepper motors for X-Axis; magnetically attached and quickly interchangeable rotary knife cutter for most fabrics and zirconium drag knife cutter for laminates reinforced with high modulus fibers; positive pressure and precision center pen holder for clearer and more accurate plotting.
We can now look forward to many thousands of yards of perfectly cut sailcloth, both for our own sails and for the sails we cut for other sailmakers.
