Design- All MSP sails are designed in house using CRAIN sail design software. This modern design software allows us to view the sail in 3D, incorporate super smooth vertical seam shaping and orient the load bearing fibers of each sail panel individually - creating high performance sail that retains it's designed shape longer.
Materials- We can choose the very best materials for your project. We are an independent sailmaker, so we can choose from any cloth supplier in the world. We are not obligated to use any specific manufacturers products or materials: we choose the best material available for the job.
Cutting- Higher tolerance than a laser cutter to ensured the design shape is transferred to the actual material. We do all our sail cutting in house using a high resolution rotary blade and drag knife cutting machine.
Construction- There is no substitute for experience. Our skilled craftsmen have developed proven techniques over years of building custom sails. We have the most experienced staff of sailmakers in Maine, and we are continuously testing new processes and techniques to add value to every sail we make.
R&D- As part of our dedication to providing you with the finest sails available, we are constantly test new products and new techniques. MSP was the first sailmaker in Maine to build stitch free upwind and downwind sails. Over the years, we have been a leader in testing innovative sail materials like Spectra, Kevlar, Pentex, AirX, PBO, Carbon and Cuben Fiber.
